According to the Industry Federation (CIF) construction and tradesmen jobs are set to grow by more than €1 billion in 2014. This would be a welcome development to the sector - brining it to a combined net worth of €11 billion in 2014.

Such an increase would generate an additional 10,000 for tradesmen and builders in the sector. The reason for the optimism is the pipeline of work that is coming down the track in 2014 as follows:

  • There is  €6.8 billion of large and medium projects already scheduled for 2014
  • The National Stimulus Plan will generate additional building works in the form of public projects.
  • NAMA are set to spend up to €4 billion as per their commitments to public spending projects.
  • A slight increase in house building in Irish cities - particularly in South Dublin. This is dependant on an improved accessibility to mortgage finance.

The construction industry was valued at  €9.9 billion in 2013, up from just over €9 billion in 2012.
