This years builders holidays are from Monday 19th July to Friday 30th of July.
Some in the media are already terming the 30th as " Black Friday " - an opportunity for contractors to tell their tradesmen employees not to come back after the holidays. Because of the implied threat, it is an anxious time for many tradesmen.
However, tradesmen working in the domestic sector may take a slightly different view. Traditionally many will follow the larger companies in observing these holidays, but in tough times will they be taking holidays at all ? Indeed for those that choose not to, will there be an opportunity to win more work when others are off sunning themselves ?
Pipes won't stop leaking, fuse boards won't stop tripping just beacuse of the builders holidays..

Re: Builders Holidays are coming - Will Tradesmen take them ?Damn right I'm taking them - why shouldn't I...won't make a difference to whether Black Friday happens or not. I'd say there will be a lot of lay-offs, the government have made a big mess of things.

Re: Builders Holidays are coming - Will Tradesmen take them ?Work is scarce enough without risking the loss of an opportunity by being on holidays. Anyway, I don't know of many tradesmen that can afford financially to take holidays this year. Maybe the focus will be on holidays at home, could be a resurgence in the mobile home market.
