haven haiti project

haiti shack

Haiti is the poorest country in the western world. 40% of it's inhabitants go hungry every single day, 1 out of every 12 of Haiti's children die before their 5th birthday.  Haiti is situated on the atlantic hurricane belt and is prone to extreme weather conditions. Often, even nature conspires against the people of Haiti. All this and you can fly to Haiti from Miami in the USA in just 90 minutes. All this suffering - so close to home.

Haven aims to build 1,000 new homes for the people of Haiti over the next 3 years and bring 2,000 more up to basic living conditions. Why build homes ? Because by improving living conditions the rest will follow - hope, education, healthcare and industry. Haven's goal is to leave a lasting legacy in one of the most desolate places on earth. And they need your help.

Volunteers

Haven need 250 volunteers to sign up to their first Built-It-Week in late autumn 2009 (first week November). They need qualified tradespeople - Bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, labourers in order to make the trip a success. Volunteers will have to raise a minimum of EUR4,000 to take part. They will travel to Haiti for a week's work in Ouananminthe – building homes for the community. Hard work but of the life changing kind - imagine being able to directly change the lives of many and leave a legacy that will last for generations. Please fill in the form below to register your interest.

Fundraising

Not everyone has the skills or resources to take a week off to help out in Haiti. But anyone can make a difference. Please help the Haven project by arranging a fundraising activity - a pub quiz, golf outing or even a trek! Please fill in the form below to register your interest.

Fundraising Tips

Not everyone will be in a position to come with us on our mission to Haiti in 2009 to build homes. Pressures of work, family life and others mean that it is not always possible to take a week off to volunteer overseas.

But, you can still help. Haven needs significant funds if we are to succeed in our amibitious targets to build 1,000 new homes and improve 2,000 more within three years.

You could hold a fundraising event here at home to raise awareness and much needed cash for Haven.

Every cent that you raise will go directly to our building and community programmes in Haiti – no money will be deducted for administration costs.

Fundraising can be fun too! Not only will you be raising money for a good cause, but you'll also be bringing people together by involving friends, neighbours, work colleagues and class mates.
