If you are a qualified trade professional, the people of the shannon region need your urgent help. The recent floods have forced many to leave their homes, leaving their buildings and home contents at the mercy of the elements. It's a devastating situation for so many families in the run up to Christmas.
We want tradesmen to volunteer their services - to flood proof vunerable homes, disconnect electricity supplies, help clear blockages - the list is long. Please volunteer by filling in the the form below for a co-ordinated weekend of action on Sat 12th of December in Athlone. We send you further information by SMS as we get it! Thanks.
UPDATE - 12/12/2009 - A small team is going to help out in Sallins this weekend, we are looking for some additional plumbers and electricians please contact Sean Conroy 0872835529 if available.
UPDATE - 09/12/2009 - We have been formally requested by the Westmeath Development Board to postpone our planned volunteer day on Sat 12th December in Athlone. We will publish a new volunteer date as soon as we receive it - thanks to all who volunteered. See text below:
" After a meeting this afternoon between Westmeath County Council and the Flood Relief Centre a number of issues were discussed.
The current situation is that some of the houses are still flooded and those that are not - need to be fumigated. In addition the level of damage needs to be assessed. Therefore due to issues regarding insurance and health and safety, we will need to postpone you offer of help.
I am very sorry for this late notification - but we are sincerely grateful for your help.
We DO need your services - however we did not realise it would take this long to recover and your help later on would be much more beneficial.
Kind Regards
Dave Raftis
