OLT: How long have you been working for yourself?
PW: Since 2012
OLT: What type of projects / jobs do you do?
PW: I specialise in all Electrical installations from complete house rewire to commercial fit out. I work alongside property maintenance companies, builders and direct clients.
OLT: What are your favourite projects / jobs & Why?
PW: My favorite projects would be electrical renovation, and LED upgrades. To see old dated and deflated looking properties come back to life gives me a great sense of achievement. The smile on the customers face at the end is what makes it worthwhile.
OLT: how to you approach a job to ensure customer satisfaction?
PW: Communication is key when it comes to customers satisfaction. I always arrange a site visit to discuss a client’s requirements and follow up with an itemised quotation, to show them the pricing for everything they requested so there is no hidden cost. Sometimes a client’s budget may not match with their ideas, so I work with them and use my experience to give them options that will work.
OLT: Is there any project / job that you worked on that sticks out ? Why ?
PW: I job really enjoyed working on and will always remember is an electrical renovation in Delgany. The clients were a dream to work with, they trusted my ideas and the job ran smoothly. The end result was very happy clients and in return we got a great referral.
OLT: How did you manage to stay afloat during the recession ?
PW: In the last 6 years I have learned a lot, most importantly that work doesn’t just come to you. You have to be proactive and go after the work. Being a member of OnlineTradesmen.ie has been a great way for me to do this. It’s given me a whole new pipeline of work to pick from. Also, I would say building relationships with main contractors is important within this industry.
OLT: What’s the most important lesson you learnt in your career so far?
PW: Well, I started my business during the recession in 2012 and quickly realised I had to be open to any opportunity that came my way. Prior to this I worked for a big Electrical company in Dublin for 13 years from serving my time as an apprentice to working my way up to be a foreman. I now have an apprentice with me at all times. I take great pride in my company and my work and I pass this experience onto my apprentice.
