Tradesmen with Websites Earn More

For many tradesmen and builders across Ireland there is still an over-reliance on ‘word of mouth’ recommendations as their main source of work. Without a doubt a kind word about your work from a neighbour or friend about is almost the perfect way to win new customers, but the problem is that there is only so much of it to go around. Putting all your trust in this method actually limits your overall potential sales to the size of your customer’s social network, their finances and their local area!

In reality the best way to compliment word of mouth recommendations is by setting up a website for your business and securing additional sources of job leads. According to figures published today by OnlineTradesmen.ie, Irish tradesmen with a promoted website win more jobs than those without.

The figures reveal that Tradesmen with a promoted website win up to 19 more jobs than those without one, translating into an average of €25,156 in additional revenue per annum across all trades.

Despite these strong returns figures also reveal that up to 55% of Irish Tradesmen still have a poor web presence or have no website at all. The main factors cited by Tradesmen for not promoting themselves online were the perceived complexity and cost of doing so.

The figures reveal that:

  •          TRADESMEN WITH PROMOTED WEBSITES WIN AN AVERAGE OF 19 MORE JOBS
  •          WEBSITES DELIVER AN AVERAGE OF €25,156 IN ADDITIONAL ANNUAL REVENUE FOR TRADESMEN
  •          UP TO 55% OF IRISH TRADESMEN HAVE POOR WEB PRESENCE

“Our figures show that Irish Tradesmen who embrace the web can grow their business significantly” comments Ted Laverty, CEO, OnlineTradesmen.ie. “We have seen proactive tradesmen grow their businesses significantly even during the recession by optimising their online presence. A professional tradesman website should provide customers with information about their qualifications, customer service and photos of their work in addition to verified ratings and testimonials from previous customers. When done properly a website can be as effective as word of mouth referrals for winning business.”

Commenting on the lag of tradesmen in getting online Laverty added “In 2016 there is really no excuse. Getting a website for your business is extremely easy, all you need it is an internet connection, a connected device and some time. As part of our service we provide Tradesmen members with a website wizard where they can get online in minutes.”
