2022: How much does a tiler cost in Ireland?

When it comes to tiling, you'll never regret hiring a professional tiler than testing your own DIY abilities. To help you on your journey to accomplishing a professional tiling job, here we offer you insights into how much specific tiling jobs cost and what to know before you start your tiling project.

The prices highlighted in our tiler price guide are estimates for labour only, and exclude materials and VAT.  When seeking to hire the services of a qualified tiler, expect to pay between €200 to €300 per day, with labour-intensive tiles like mosaics at the upper end of the scale.

Factors that influence the cost of a tiling project

The following are some factors that may influence your tiling quote:

  • Design and Style - Plain tiles will be less difficult to fit than intricately designed tiles. For example, mosaic tiles are fiddly or a herringbone layout is also more labour intensive. The longer the time to fit, the more expensive your project. If you are using an especially costly tile, expect your tiler to spend more time treating them cautiously to avoid breakages.
  • Tiling area - The scope and size of the project will add to the cost. However, if the surface requires signification preparation or if the area is uneven or somewhat restricted, this too will add to the overall cost of your project.

Other tiling costs to consider

  • Materials (such as grouting + adhesives) – before your project starts, your tiler will request grout, adhesives, and any trim required for the job to be purchased and made available on the day.
  • Wall prep (plastering) – Any unfinished surfaces will delay your project. Surfaces should be prepared and ready for tiles before your tiler arrives onsite - unless otherwise stated.
  • Removing old tiles – if you have existing tiles in place, you will need to factor into your budget their removal, including old adhesive and grout.
  • Underfloor heating – tiling on top of underfloor heating requires the correct flexible adhesives and grouts, so be prepared to pay more if you ask your tiler to do so.

Tiler Hiring Tips

Onlinetradesmen helps to remove the stress for homeowners when searching for trades like tilers because our standards-based service checks all our trade professionals for relevant qualifications and experience.

However, if you are hiring from outside our service, you will want to take some time to check if they are right for your job. Here are a few questions to ask:

Can I receive my quote in writing?

Requesting a written quotation or estimate will document how much you’ll be expected to pay, the start date and estimated completion date, any materials required, etc.

For larger jobs, we recommend that homeowners also request the signing of a home improvement contract, which can be helpful not only to document the overall project but also in the event of any disputes.

To make it easy we’ve created a free home improvement contract template that you can download here.

Are you insured to work in my home?

A minimum coverage of Public Liability Insurance or All Risks insurance cover will ensure that any accidents are claimable under their insurance policy rather than your home insurance or from you personally.

Can I view recent projects?

Onlinetradesmen members have an online profile where you can view recent projects and review other details about their service, including qualifications and previous homeowner reviews and ratings. If you don’t have this information about your tiler, ask to speak to some of their previous clients to view previous jobs before you commit.
