Hi Liam! Tell us a bit about what you do.

I’m a painter and decorator, based here in Wicklow. I’ve been in the trade since 1981 and started Slattery Decor about 15 years ago. I handle all kinds of work—interiors, exteriors, commercial and private. I travel all over Leinster, and I’m especially busy servicing South Dublin and the surrounding areas.

You've had a long career—any memorable projects?

Plenty! A big one that comes to mind is Leinster House—that was a tough job but very rewarding. I also worked on the National Gallery, Dublin Castle, and hotels like the Shelbourne and the Gibson. Every job adds something new.

What’s your approach when working with a client?

I always meet the client before we start. It’s important to go through the job together and talk about paint types and finishes. Clear communication means better results.

Like a lot of us—I just kept going. You learn to adapt and keep doing good work.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Learn your trade well and really listen to your customers. That’s how you build a good reputation.
