Discover more about Mick and his business. 'I'm happy if the customer is happy!' Mick Power, MP Plastering OLT: How long have you been working for yourself? MP: I'm a third-generation plasterer and grew up learning from my father and grandfather. I qualified back in 1999 and after building up experience working for a company, I went out on my own 5 years ago. OLT: What type of projects/jobs do you do? MP: I do all types of plastering / dry dashing jobs and some smaller building jobs, including internal insulation projects. OLT: What are your favourite projects/jobs & Why? MP: I specialize in dry-dashing houses and I'd say that's the work I enjoy most. OLT: How to you approach a job to ensure customer satisfaction? MP: I am a perfectionist at heart so want to make sure that all work is done properly. I'm happy if the customer is happy so leaving a project finished to the highest possible standard is a priority. OLT: How did you manage to stay afloat during the recession? MP: When the building work went very slow, I took on other types of work as well. Flexibility and looking at what other skills I could bring to a project to save a homeowner money meant I managed to keep working. OLT: What’s the most important lesson you learnt in your career so far? MP: I would say that learning the importance of punctuality, hard work and focusing on the job at hand. MP: How would you sum up what OnlineTradesmen has done for your business? MP: Onlinetradesmen has been very productive for me as it works very well with my business plan. I like that customers can read about my experience and qualifications on my website and see photos of jobs I've completed. It's great they can read what other customers have said on my ratings page. OLT: What advice would you give to someone starting out now in the trade? MP: Focus on your trade to start with. Get lots of experience, learn as much as you can and become skilled at your trade. Once you've perfected your skill in your trade and get a name for your workmanship, you'll find it easier to get repeat work.
