Irish Government Offers Up to €70,000 Grant to Refurbish Vacant & Derelict Homes

Irish government's grant scheme offering up to €70k for revamping derelict homes is a great opportunity for tradespeople to secure new projects and expand their business.

Starting May 1st, 2023, the Irish government is offering a grant of up to €70,000 to renovators willing to refurbish and revive abandoned and derelict homes. This new and improved Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant scheme is expanding to cover buildings constructed before 2008, including those intended for rental, as well as owner-occupied units.

If you're a tradesperson, this is a great opportunity for you to secure new projects and work on reviving abandoned properties with the help of government funding. The grant covers a range of costs related to refurbishment, including structural work, roofing, painting, building services, and professional fees. And if the renovation costs more than the grant, homeowners will have to pay for the additional costs.

Eligibility requires the property to have remained vacant for at least two years and be constructed prior to 2008. In addition, derelict properties require an independent report confirming their condition as being unfit for use. Homeowners must also own the home or be in the process of buying it, live in the property as their principal private home after the work is done, and have tax clearance from Revenue.

The grant must be approved before any work begins and is issued by local authorities. The application process involves submitting a completed application form, supporting documents, and a quote for the renovations to the local authority. The local authority will review the application, assess the cost, and let the homeowner know if the application has been successful.

As a tradesperson, you can benefit from this grant by offering your services to homeowners who are eligible for it. You can also inform them that the grant may be combined with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s Better Energy Home Scheme supports, which could offer an additional €26,750 in support.

The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant is a game-changer for homeowners who want to revive abandoned properties, and as a tradesperson, you can play a crucial role in making their dreams a reality. Don't miss out on this opportunity to secure new projects and expand your business.
