Kelly Ohlmus / Thursday, May 8, 2025 / Categories: Construction News & Help, Construction News Upskilling for Tradesmen: Boost Your Construction Career The Irish construction landscape is evolving rapidly, demanding new skills and knowledge from its professionals. To help the industry adapt and thrive, the Digital Academy for the Sustainable Built Environment (DASBE) offers a range of upskilling programmes designed to meet these changing needs. DASBE, a collaborative initiative involving the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Tipperary Energy Agency, and the Irish Green Building Council, provides flexible learning opportunities focused on key areas shaping the future of construction: Energy Efficiency, Circular Economy, and Digital Construction. Recognising the busy schedules of construction professionals, DASBE delivers most lectures online in the evenings, with practical workshops and site visits typically scheduled for Fridays or Saturdays. This blended learning approach allows individuals to enhance their expertise without significant disruption to their work commitments. The programmes cater to various levels and needs, offering everything from short micro-credentials and certificates to Higher Diplomas. This stackable approach allows individuals to build their qualifications progressively. Importantly, many of these programmes are recognised for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes. With upcoming changes driven by the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the National Building Information Modelling (BIM) mandate, upskilling is becoming increasingly crucial for staying competitive in the industry. DASBE's programmes directly address these evolving requirements, offering training in areas such as retrofitting, whole life carbon assessment, green building tools, circular economy principles, traditional building renovation, and BIM at all levels. Funding is currently available for DASBE programmes and micro-credentials, with opportunities for 30% to 50% funding for major awards and certificates, and up to 80% for shorter micro-credentials. However, this funding is scheduled to conclude in September/October 2025, making early registration advisable due to limited spaces. For OnlineTradesmen community members looking to enhance their skills and future-proof their careers in the construction sector, exploring the opportunities offered by DASBE is a worthwhile step.
