We are chatting to Jeff Scully, from Scully's Painting and Decorating today.  Jeff has over 20 years in the Painting and Decorating business in the Dublin area. He believes that great service begins and ends with a experienced and friendly professional. Jeff's aims to exceed a customers expectations of what a dependable Painter and Decorator can be. 

Read on for his advice on getting started and sustaining a thriving business regardless of the economic climate. 

OLT: So let's start with the basics Jeff! How long have you been in the trade? 
JS:  I started out 22 years ago and qualified in 2000. I've worked for myself for over 16 years now.  I have a serious passion for my work and I enjoy every minute of it!

OLT: What type of painting work do you enjoy most? 
JS: I do all types of painting and love the fact that I get to meet lots of people young and old and share stories from all over the world.  I Iove to have a good old chat with some of my older clients. 

OLT: How do you ensure your clients are happy and get those 5 star ratings? 
JS: As a professional Painter and Decorator I bring my experience and know how to every job. But what sets my company apart from the rest of the industry is my attention to detail and receptiveness to the unique needs of each client. 

OLT: What would you say has been the most important lesson you've learnt in your career so far ?
JS: To be honest no matter how good you are, you always want to be better.  Every day is always a learning day for me, whether it's trying different ways, different products, different tools or different machines.  I think in another 20 years, I will still be learning and always getting better and trying to be one step ahead of the rest.

OLT: You've certainly plenty of experience. Are there any projects that stand out? 
JS: I worked in the Grand Canal Hotel in Dublin for many months. It was both a challenge and a pleasure to have the opportunity to transform a well known and beautiful hotel. All the hotel's staff were very nice and friendly and a pleasure to work around, and the free top-end breakfast and lunch was an added bonus!

OLT: How did you manage to stay afloat during the recession?
JS: I'm not going to lie, it was very hard and sometimes scary when sacrifices had to be made but with so many private clients built up over the years, my reputation and the help of Onlinetradesmen I was one of the few that managed to keep going and see it out.  I always believed we would always bounce back and thankfully I always had work. 

OLT: What advice would you give to someone starting out now in the trade?
JS: Onlinetradesmen is a great way to start to build a client base and build on customer service to get referrals. Never let a customer down and always do the job as best it can be done. Leave the premises every day the way you found it or better and never over charge. 

OLT:  Great to hear Onlinetradesmen has expanded your client base. How else has it helped your business?
JS: Onlinetradesmen has definitely helped my business grow as I am getting contacts from them every day. It's hard for anyone to find a reliable and trustworthy tradesman but on Onlinetradesmen it's so much easier and safer. I think it's reassuring for the customers to know they can go onto Onlinetradesmen and find exactly what they are looking for.
