We bought an old house at the start of 2010 and contacted a few builders to give us quotes for the work that needed to be done. This work included replacing roof joists and building new ceilings in the whole house, dry lining walls, laying new floors and hanging new doors and building a walk in wardrobe. Out of all the builders, the most detailed quote we received was from Mark Johnston. Everything was itemised and this gave us an exact idea of how much the labour vs materials was. No other builder gave us these exact amounts and as first time buyers, it was extremely reassuring. Mark explained the whole quote in detail and recommended work-arounds for certain materials when we discussed lack of budget. He was always responsive via email and phone during the day when we had questions about the quote. I really appreciated this as I work 8-5 and writing emails is sometimes handier for me. We did not choose Mark Johnston at first as we were recommended a local builder who could start immediately and we assumed we would get the work done quicker and cheaper as we was local, this was a huge mistake and after 3 months of no-shows and extremely slow work we had a dispute with the builder. I contacted Mark Johnston again and explained the situation and within a week he brought a team out to our house to finish the bad job that the other builder started. The team came very early in the morning and left late in the evening. We were amazed at how fast they got the work done. A reasonable price and short timeline was given at the start and they were met. They would not do anything that was not included in the quote without discussing it with us first. When our requests changed slightly half way through, Mark and his team made changes, nothing seemed like too much hassle to them. This was a big difference to other tradesmen who often make small tasks out to be something impossible. As first time buyers, we were very unsure a lot of the time, but everything was explained to
